“DIY” Kitchen Painting Essentials

If you’re in the Denver area and you’ve just inherited a new kitchen in a recent move or recently undertaken a remodeling project in your existing kitchen, then you’re probably in the market for Denver painters, as well as a few tips on how to reclaim your kitchen space and make it your own. Here are a few things to consider before starting your DIY kitchen painting project.

Of the many decisions that you’ll have to make during this process, one of the most exciting of those is what color to paint your new kitchen. While we understand how eager you probably are to dive into the color wheel, we want you to first consider one of the most critical factors when it comes to painting your kitchen. That one factor is greater than the paint color itself; it’s the paint’s finish. With that said, here are a few things that should help you decide what paint finish will be best for your space.

The first things that you should think about are the types of activities you’ll be doing in your kitchen. Most kitchens see heavy traffic and often suffer from high amounts of exposure to grease, oils and many acidic foods and materials such as coffee or heavy solvents used in dish washing areas; not to mention the copious amounts of water that will end up on the walls near the sink. With that said, you will want a paint finish that will fair well against the weathering that is sure to come.

Most paint manufacturers offer paints that range from flat or matte finishes to paints that have medium to high-gloss finishes. In most cases, the flatter the finish, the harder the surface will be to clean. Now, if you were to choose a medium to high-gloss finish, you will find that in most cases a good majority of debris can be removed with a firm hand and the right solvent.  Sometimes all it takes is a bit of clean water.

Of the many choices that you’ll have to choose from, we’ve always found that satin or semi-gloss finishes work best.

Semi-gloss and satin finishes are great because they can withstand mildew and staining and their higher gloss content will make them more durable and easier to clean.

Despite their many positive qualities, these types of finishes have a tendency to point out imperfections. So, if you’re experiencing issues with your walls, such as cracks or creases, then you may want to consult a drywall repair Denver based specialist to assist in the repair process before continuing with the painting phase of your project.

So, now that you are armed with the knowledge of what really makes a paint choice special, you can walk into any home improvement project with an ace up your sleeve.
